Vacation 2013: The Gambian Experience
So here I am. . .after over a year of not blogging. Not that I haven’t been writing or lacked what to talk about, as it is the case with most wanna-be bloggers like myself, you should expect flaws like this one, as many times in one year. Though I have written articles (technical and non technical) I thought are not worthy of publishing, written poems I am too scared to post (Cold, I’ve been there, Broken Pot, As I…

Away
I could decide to pick a prostitute and “sex” it away I could decide to get a wrap of ganja and smoke it away… Or visit a “pharmacist” to sniff it away I could decide to spend all day and night in a bar drinking it away At least I know, like my friends say The bottle doesn’t betray Better still Without much delay, I could go to a karaoke bar and sing it away Or attend a comedy show…

I Cry. . .!
I cry When the chips fall off my shoulders When I put up a cowardly bold face And there is no grave to bury the shame in it When I find myself doing things I preach against When I seem to fear myself more than death When I know I’m not truthful within And everyone around marvels at my honesty When I look into the mirror and get scared by what I see Or when I sit on my bed.…

Hacked, Then UnHacked
Been almost a year since I expressed my thoughts and feelings here. . .Not that I found a new space to express them but the will and time to write just hasn’t been there, until four days ago when I was buzzed on YM by an old friend, a staff at Standards Organisation of Nigeria. For those who were close to me back home in Nigeria, they knew I developed several IT solutions for the nation’s apex Standards body –…

I did Malabo….!
Deciding where to start this article was as tough as deciding to leave the only Spanish speaking African country. Do I start by describing the tutelage of the protocol officer, Emmanuel, assigned to us by the foreign affairs ministry, who did his work with so much zeal and passion right from my arrival till time of departure? Do I start by descrbing the beautiful island marred with palm trees at every corner, streets as clean as the clouds, the wonderful…

When I’m Hurt
When I’m hurt. . . I’m..hot. . . I’m lost… In thoughts… Every hair strand on my body gets dreadlocked… My brain like two threads deadlocked… The realities leaves me shell-shocked. . . When I’m hurt, I dont cry. . . I wear a big smile with mediterranean water dripping from my eyes Thats how I feel. . .thats the price I pay when you say the truth by telling me lies When I’m hurt is when I love And…

Processing Long Forms in Servlets/JSP – An easy way out
After downloading and watching “Omo Ghetto” aka Ghetto Child (A nigerian home video), and listening and re-listening to a wonderful, soulful, inspiring sermon “Put your trust in Allah” by brother Belal Asaad (watch here – its just 7 minutes), I decided to write this post to round off the weekend. One of the modules of the EMIS (Education Management Information System) platform I am working on presently is a capacity assessment system that enables member states (countries) submit data on…

A Bearded Programmer Does Kinshasa. . .!
A very dirty denim jeans, uncombed hair, bushy beard, dusty sneakers, bag strapped to back (with ‘Zainab’ my laptop in it) like a baby will best describe my appearance as I arrived in Kinshasa via Brazzaville. I knew one thing for sure, that life in Congo DRC will be nothing near exciting as compared to Addis. Ethiopia is now like a second home for me. The friends I have made, the places I visit, the Muslim community etc all make…

AUYVC Training – My Presentation
I’m in Nigeria on official assignment (Obudu Ranch in Cross Rivers State). . .Yippppeeeee!!!!. . . I love official assignments, especially when its to Nigeria for no other reason than to hook up with family and friends. AUYVC is an acronym for African Union Volunteer Corps. Its a continental development effort that aims at giving opportunities to work/volunteer in another African country other than theirs. Last year March, I was invited by the African Union Commission to join the planning…
